Annual Veteran's Day Ceremony

Plan to attend the Virtual Contra Costa County Board of Supervisors’ annual Veterans Day Ceremony on Tuesday, November 10, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. Due to the Coronavirus, this year’s ceremony will be held virtually on Contra Costa TV, available to watch at www.contracostatv.org.

The keynote speaker is Vietnam veteran and Purple Heart winner, Congressman Mike Thompson. Thompson served in combat with the U.S. Army as a staff sergeant/platoon leader with the 173rd Airborne Brigade. He was also an instructor at the Army's Airborne School.

Thompson has been a member of Congress since 1999 and now represents California’s 5th congressional district, which includes all of Napa County and portions of Contra Costa, Lake, Solano, and Sonoma counties. Thompson is a former Co-Chair of the Military Veterans Caucus and worked to end the “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” policy.

The ceremony will also honor Mike Hoffschneider, who retired from Contra Costa County as a Veterans Service Representative on October 1, 2020. Mike, an Army Veteran, had over 43 years of combined federal and county public service.

Please contact Contra Costa County Veterans Service Officer Nathan D. Johnson at (925) 313-1481 for any questions about this year’s event.

Assemblymember Rebecca Bauer-Kahan Virtual Town Hall

Rebecca Bauer-Kahan, Assemblymember, 16th District Virtual Town Hall

"With the conclusion of the 2020 legislative session, I am proud of what we have been able to accomplish despite the incredible challenges our state faced. My colleagues and I had to make hard decisions but, ultimately, we were able to pass a balanced budget and legislation that represents our district's values and responds to the challenges Californians like you are facing. We passed meaningful legislation to help small businesses, ensure funding for public schools, harden our defenses against wildfires, and advance social and racial justice.

"I would like to invite you to my virtual Town Hall. I will provide an update on the work we have been doing in Sacramento as well as locally over the last year. There will also be an opportunity for Q&A and for you to share your ideas and thoughts as we begin to prepare for the 2021 legislative session. I hope you can join us and I look forward to hearing from you!"

BART General Manager Bob Powers has pledged $2 million in operating funds, originally identified for Covid-19 pandemic enforcement using sworn officers, to be reallocated toward more unarmed civilian employees providing presence and assistance and to expand training.

Already in 2020, there have been some big developments in the BART Police Department:

• BPD Chief Ed Alvarez created a new Progressive Policing and Community Engagement Bureau;
• A new team of highly visible ambassadors were recruited from the ranks of Community Service Officers (CSOs), who are unarmed and trained in de-escalation and anti-bias techniques;
• BART has extended partnerships with community-based providers like Homeless Outreach Teams (HOT) to help connect those in need with services;
• The focus of these unarmed personnel is on education, outreach, and prevention

“We are very impressed with your Chamber. We have been members of other Chambers over the years and it’s been nothing like the experiences we’re having right out of the gate with your organization. Thank you for your great communication, follow up, and professionalism.”
– Peter Dewey, Bayview Painting

“I couldn’t have asked for a better resource than the Chamber, as I was establishing my medical practice in Lafayette. AJ, Holly, and Sara were so responsive to my questions and gave me many ideas on networking in the community. They host several events that foster community building. I honestly cannot imagine a more robust, active, and friendly chamber as this. I’m a member for life!”
– Cheruba Prabakar, Lamorinda Gynecology & Surgery

“WE LOVE THE CHAMBER! Batch and Brine has been a member of the Lafayette Chamber of Commerce for almost six years. We value and appreciate the incredible amount of work this organization produces for our community through many events and support for each business. The networking and education of information that’s spilled out weekly for the business community is impressive. They are a helping hand in so many ways for our business community and beyond. We couldn’t be part of this community without being part of the chamber. Lafayette Chamber is one of the best organizations we’ve worked with, so don’t think twice about it, join the Chamber!” – Rolla Ghaben, Batch & Brine

“The Chamber was instrumental in helping us open 14 years ago. The staff went out of their way to help us make connections and ensure we were successful. We would not be where we are today without the Chamber!”
– John & Colleen McCormick, Lamorinda Music
