Town Hall (Zoom) "Get Ready for Wildfire Season"

This Town Hall will help you prepare your family, home and neighborhood for wildland fires and for all other hazards, such as earthquakes and power failures. The more prepared we are
as a community, the better we’ll be able to respond to a catastrophic fire or other disaster in our area.

California has experienced a dramatic rise in both the number and severity of wildland fires. These fires have ravaged wildland-urban interface areas taking lives, destroying homes and obliterating infrastructure. Twelve of the 20 largest fires in California’s recorded history have burned in the last five years and 15 of California’s most
destructive wildfires have occurred since 2015.

Presenters include:
· Chief Ben Alldritt;  Lafayette Police Department
· Deputy Fire Chief Aaron McAlister;  Contra Costa Fire Protection District
· Briana Taylor - Bay Area Red Cross
· John Cornell; Emergency Preparedness Analyst-Lafayette Police Department
· Moderator; Wei-Tai Kwok; Lafayette City Councilmember
This distinguished panel will each give an overview and will then answer questions.  There will be a second Wildfire Town Hall on Thursday, August 25th at 6:00pm.

For additional information prior to the event email Cathy Surges-Moscato at csurges@ci.lafayette.ca.us

Unveiling of Memorial Plaque Honoring Ashley Dias

A memorial plaque honoring the late Ashley Dias will be dedicated on Friday, September 2 at 7:00 p.m. at Lafayette Plaza (corner of Plaza Way and Golden Gate Way in downtown Lafayette).
The cast brass plaque honors Ashley Dias who died after being struck by a vehicle while performing his duties as a crossing guard in front of Stanley Middle School last year. The Dias family had suggested the plaque to the City to honor Ashley and serve as a reminder to “Please Slow Down” and keep our community safe. Working with the Dias family, the City selected the planter between the Wayside Inn and the Park Theater as the location for the plaque.
The public is welcome to attend the event. Light refreshments will be served.

“We are very impressed with your Chamber. We have been members of other Chambers over the years and it’s been nothing like the experiences we’re having right out of the gate with your organization. Thank you for your great communication, follow up, and professionalism.”
– Peter Dewey, Bayview Painting

“I couldn’t have asked for a better resource than the Chamber, as I was establishing my medical practice in Lafayette. AJ, Holly, and Sara were so responsive to my questions and gave me many ideas on networking in the community. They host several events that foster community building. I honestly cannot imagine a more robust, active, and friendly chamber as this. I’m a member for life!”
– Cheruba Prabakar, Lamorinda Gynecology & Surgery

“WE LOVE THE CHAMBER! Batch and Brine has been a member of the Lafayette Chamber of Commerce for almost six years. We value and appreciate the incredible amount of work this organization produces for our community through many events and support for each business. The networking and education of information that’s spilled out weekly for the business community is impressive. They are a helping hand in so many ways for our business community and beyond. We couldn’t be part of this community without being part of the chamber. Lafayette Chamber is one of the best organizations we’ve worked with, so don’t think twice about it, join the Chamber!” – Rolla Ghaben, Batch & Brine

“The Chamber was instrumental in helping us open 14 years ago. The staff went out of their way to help us make connections and ensure we were successful. We would not be where we are today without the Chamber!”
– John & Colleen McCormick, Lamorinda Music
