We will be celebrating the well-earned retirement of the one-and-only Jay Lifson at the Lafayette Park Hotel and Spa on Monday, October 3, 5-7pm. Program will start promptly at 6pm. Casual attire, tie dye encouraged! This event is not a surprise.

Evening will include passed appetizers and wine in the Courtyard with live music by “The Insiders” Paul Cotruvo and Kiki Stack. A no host, cash bar will be available. Steven Falk will be the MC for evening along with a few special guest speeches and of course, a few words from Jay, himself to close out the night. As a keepsake, the Chamber will be collecting “stories” and photos of Jay through the years. Get into spooky spirit with Orinda artist, Jackie Smith of A Cottage in the Forest. Jackie will take you step-by-step through making her original and whimsical designs! With our Halloween theme, you’ll assemble a spooky paper haunted house and decorate it (we’ll provide materials, but feel free to bring any favorites) perfect for dressing up your Halloween windowsill or mantle. 

$25/person, supplies included. 

Kids are welcome, but under 12 must be accompanied by an adult.

Join friends, volunteers, and community partners at the Youth Homes Thrift Shop for an exclusive evening of shopping, mingling, and makeovers. Learn about how our store supports critical programs for local foster youth, hear about volunteer opportunities, meet Youth Homes staff, board members, and alumni. All proceeds will support local foster youth, and youth requiring mental health support.

The Youth Homes Thrift Shop new fall collection is out in our store and we will have incredible deals on exclusive designer brand clothing. The Mary Kay team will be sharing their new fall makeup palette and offering free makeovers!

Food and drink will be provided and ticket can be exchanged for $20 in thrift store merchandise. We look forward to seeing you for this fun and festive evening!

Join us for our first fall book club meeting on Oct 12 at 7-8:30 pm. We are reading Redeeming Love by Francine Rivers for our October meeting. This historical fiction takes place during the California Gold Rush. The main character’s life has a harsh beginning with Angel thrown into a life of prostitution as a young girl. Then she meets Michael Hosea. A man who seeks his Father’s heart in everything, Michael Hosea obeys God’s call to marry Angel and to love her unconditionally. Slowly, day by day, he defies Angel’s every bitter expectation until, despite her resistance her frozen heart begins to thaw. A life-changing story of God’s unconditional, redemptive, all-consuming love.

Just in time before the winter months, Hollie will share all her tips and know-how with the proper preparation and healing qualities of each herb and what’s best to heal and regenerate our skin. Each participant will make their own 2 oz jar of salve and lip balm tin to take home.

Las Trampas invites you to Wine-Down with us at Balestrieri Family Farm on Thursday, October 13^th from 5:30 – 8:00pm. Join us to enjoy a selection of cheeses paired with five estate grown wines during this guided tasting at a local boutique winery. All proceeds will benefit Las Trampas and our mission to support adults with developmental disabilities to discover their capabilities and to lead full lives in their home, at work, and in the community.

The Lafayette Homeowners Council invites all residents to two October evenings of Candidates Nights.

The first will be on Thursday, October 13th, which will begin at 6:30 p.m., with presentations by our recently reappointed City Council Members Teresa Gerringer, Susan Candell and Wei-Tai Kwok.

At 7 p.m. there will be introduction of and presentations from, the six candidates for the Lafayette School District Board of Governors. These will be followed by a question and answer session open to all participants.

The second event, on October 20th, will begin at 7 p.m. We will have introductions of, presentations from, and Q and A with, our candidates who are seeking a position on the Acalanes Union High School District Board of Governors. The candidates for the Lafayette School District Board of Governors are Katy Foreman, Niels Larsen, Sarah Lind, Robb McSorley, Dave Smith.

The candidates for the Acalanes Union High School District are Jennifer Chen, Clayton Gardner, Nancy Kendzierski, Gabriel Morris Ledeen, Renee Nowak, Mark Woolway.

The Lafayette School District Parent Education Committee (DPEC), in partnership with Acalanes High School and St. Perpetua School, is bringing this important learning opportunity to our community. This is a challenging and important topic, and we are confident that speaker Anne Moss Rogers will help our adult community better understand this complex issue so that we can support our students.

This adult-only event is free of charge. Registration is required. The event will be held on October 18, from 6:30-8:30pm, at the Lafayette Orinda Presbyterian Church, 49 Knox Drive, Lafayette. Thank you to all of you who were able to complete our recent parent education survey.

It is our intention to bring our parents and caregivers learning opportunities to support the needs you are currently facing. This event is being presented based on the many responses looking for support in the area of mental health and wellness. We look forward to offering additional events on this topic in the future.
