Get into the Holiday & Winter Solstice spirit with Orinda artist, Jackie Smith of A Cottage in the Forest. Jackie will take you step-by-step through making her original and whimsical designs! With our Holiday /Winter Wonderland theme, you’ll assemble a beautiful paper house and decorate it (we’ll provide materials, but feel free to bring any favorites) perfect for dressing up your windowsill or mantle.

Please consider donating to Hope Solutions. Hope Solutions is a charity that St. Perpetua tithes for. It was originally called Contra Costa Interfaith Housing. It was started/founded by multiple faith communities in Contra Costa County to provide supportive housing for families and individuals. They purchased an apartment building in Pleasant Hill and remodeled it and moved in families and provided therapy, job counseling, after school help for the kids and so much more. Their model is so successful that they now provide housing and support services at multiple complexes in Contra Costa County. Hope Solutions is extra special because so many groups in Lafayette were instrumental in its creation and continue to support it. 

Hope Solutions’ MHSA and ACCESS program have requested new bedding as a holiday gift. Help Hope Solutions deliver “Bed in a Bag” including comforters and sheets to the residents in the program. Bed in a Bag should be gender neutral and include a comforter, shams, and sheet set. Bedding should be delivered to the holiday mixer on Thursday, December 8 at St. Perpetua or to the Hope Solutions office by Monday, December 12. If you would like to sign up to provide bedding for a resident in the program you can SIGN UP HERE. The Diablo Symphony Orchestra joins forces with the Blackhawk Chorus at the Walnut Creek Presbyterian Church on December 10 at 2:00 p.m. for an uplifting program featuring holiday music from around the world, including “Star of Bethlehem” and “Somewhere in My Memory” from John Williams’s score for Home Alone, excerpts from Handel’s Messiah, John Rutter’s “What Sweeter Music,” Mark Wilberg’s arrangement of “Deck the Halls,” the traditional French carol “Sing We Now of Christmas,” and Leroy Anderson’s “Sleigh Ride.” Anna Presler, violin, and Leighton Fong, cello, of the Left Coast Chamber Ensemble join the orchestra to premiere Ukrainian composer Alex Saratsky’s jazzy Double Concerto for Violin and Cello, followed by an orchestral arrangement of energetic and celebratory klezmer songs and dances. 

Adult admission is $35, admission for youth ages 13–17 is $10, and there is no charge for children 12 and under. Tickets are available at the Lesher Center for the Arts or through the DSO website until 5:00 p.m. on December 9 (1601 Civic Drive, Walnut Creek, 925-943-7469, www.diablosymphony.org). Tickets held at Will Call can be picked up at the box office until 5:30 p.m. on December 9 or on December 10 at the concert venue during the hour preceding the 2:00 p.m. performance. Tickets can also be purchased at the door.

Calling all elves and holiday helpers: join us at the Winter Workshop for Kids! This first-ever event will be held Saturday, December 17, at Lafayette Plaza Park, from 10 AM to 2 PM. Children will have the opportunity to make a gift for someone they love. All materials and assistance will be provided, and parents/guardians can help with assembly too. Gift options will include wreaths, photo boxes, and ornaments. Christmas and non-Christmas choices will be available. This event is brought to you by Lamorinda Sunrise Rotary in partnership with Lafayette Parks and Recreation. We invite you to join us and help spread the spirit of giving!
