Miramonte High School presents: Grease

Leather jackets, poodle skirts, and Greased Lightnin’! Watch out, Lamorinda, Rydell High is coming to Miramonte! One of Miramonte High School’s most anticipated annual events returns in March when more than 80 cast, crew, and band members will be cruising the halls of Rydell High, dreaming of “Summer Nights” and “Beauty School Dropout’” as they perform the rollicking musical Grease.

Since 1999, Miramonte has had a tradition of producing high-quality musicals that are student-centered. Our productions engage and foster collaboration between student designers, technicians, builders, stage managers, actors, and musicians. This year's musical is a collaboration between Musical Theater, Drama, Choir, and Instrumental Music programs and is directed by Heather Cousins, musically directed by Meredith Hawkins, conducted by Thomas Dwyer, and choreographed by Justin Cole of Joy in Motion.

Come out to support the arts at Miramonte High School. These performing arts programs are vital opportunities for creative and artistic expression for our students. Be there or be square!

Diablo Symphony and Festival Opera Present Family Concert

Diablo Symphony and Festival Opera Present Family Concert

The Diablo Symphony Orchestra joins forces with Festival Opera on April 2 at 2:00 p.m. at the Lesher Center for the Arts in a coproduction of the new mini-opera Tales from the Briar Patch, inspired by traditional African stories. In this 30-minute operatic treat by composer Nkeiru Okoye and librettist Carman Moore, Sister Sparrow (a silly show-off), Sister Robin (the practical one) and Madame Partridge (the bossy one) retell the antics of the famous arch-enemies Brer Rabbit and Brer Fox. Paying tribute to the African tradition of storytelling for all ages, Okoye’s score blends jazz, blues, and gospel styles with contemporary musical sounds, and Moore’s text is filled with both humor and wisdom. The characters are portrayed by tenor Marcus J. Paige, baritone Omari Tau, soprano Shawnette Sulker, mezzo-soprano Aisha Campbell, and soprano Leberta Lorál. Setting the stage is the concert’s toe-tapping and energetic first half featuring Leonard Bernstein’s “Overture to Candide” and George Gershwin’s “Rhapsody in Blue.” Described as a “rhythmic potpourri,” Berstein’s overture delivers a succession of themes at breakneck speed, all of which join in a riotous conclusion. And, beginning with its now iconic glissando in the clarinet, Gershwin’s work for piano and orchestra—with its jazz and ragtime rhythms and blues-inspired melodies—reaches out to audiences of all ages. At the piano is fifteen year old Minna Fu, this season’s Yen Liang Young Artist Competition winner. A resident of Pleasanton, Fu has won multiple national piano competitions, and was invited to perform in Carnegie Weill Recital Hall in 2019.

“We are very impressed with your Chamber. We have been members of other Chambers over the years and it’s been nothing like the experiences we’re having right out of the gate with your organization. Thank you for your great communication, follow up, and professionalism.”
– Peter Dewey, Bayview Painting

“I couldn’t have asked for a better resource than the Chamber, as I was establishing my medical practice in Lafayette. AJ, Holly, and Sara were so responsive to my questions and gave me many ideas on networking in the community. They host several events that foster community building. I honestly cannot imagine a more robust, active, and friendly chamber as this. I’m a member for life!”
– Cheruba Prabakar, Lamorinda Gynecology & Surgery

“WE LOVE THE CHAMBER! Batch and Brine has been a member of the Lafayette Chamber of Commerce for almost six years. We value and appreciate the incredible amount of work this organization produces for our community through many events and support for each business. The networking and education of information that’s spilled out weekly for the business community is impressive. They are a helping hand in so many ways for our business community and beyond. We couldn’t be part of this community without being part of the chamber. Lafayette Chamber is one of the best organizations we’ve worked with, so don’t think twice about it, join the Chamber!” – Rolla Ghaben, Batch & Brine

“The Chamber was instrumental in helping us open 14 years ago. The staff went out of their way to help us make connections and ensure we were successful. We would not be where we are today without the Chamber!”
– John & Colleen McCormick, Lamorinda Music
