Business Person of the Year Dinner/State of the City Address

Thank you for joining us for the 2019 Business Person of the Year! Video of the Mayor’s State of the City Address, which was given at the Chamber’s Business Person of the Year dinner, is now up on the City of Lafayette's YouTube channel here:

https://youtu.be/1r0d9GNgvt8

You can also watch the entire Business Person of the Year dinner, honoring Terry Ring, here:

Photos of the evening can be seen here:

Terry RingLafayette’s Business Person of the Year has been selected! The Wizard of Lafayette Terry Ring, Ring Construction is honored.

When Toto pulls back the curtain and reveals the Wizard of Oz, we are confused. It is not the person we thought it was. And when we realize who it really is, we are even more impressed by his or her importance. This year we DO pay attention to the man behind the curtain. The guy who without recognition has done so many great things for our community while running a very successful construction company for decades.

Terry Ring is not only an amazing community volunteer, he is an IRON MAN. The Iron Man team is the group of volunteers behind the curtains at the annual Art & Wine Festival, doing whatever is needed for the event to be successful. Terry has been helping with so many events over the years with the Lafayette Rotary Club (Terry is the incoming President for 2019) and the Chamber of Commerce where you can find Terry at the starting line of the Lafayette Res Run for Education instructing the runners on proper running etiquette. Terry and his crew ultimately built the Rotary Stage at the Reservoir and the new memorial honoring our local fallen sons and daughters who lived in Contra Costa. The new memorial sits out front of the Lafayette Veterans Memorial Center.

Help us celebrate Terry’s contributions by joining us for a dinner in his honor. The Business Person of the Year dinner will be held at the Lafayette Park Hotel & Spa on Friday, February 1, 2019 . In addition to toasting and roasting Terry, we will have Mayor Cam Burks give his first “State of the City” address. Reservations are required.

Tuesday, March 19, 2019City of Lafayette

The Future of our Downtown Community Workshop

In February, the Lafayette City Council approved three strategic goals and five strategic objectives for 2019. One of the strategic objectives is to develop a strategy to expand City support of local businesses and commerce & to increase the vibrancy of downtown Lafayette. Mayor Burks and Councilmember Candell are assigned to work on this objective and their goal is to submit an action plan to the full City Council by the end of April. The action plan or road map will assist the Council in establishing the City’s work plans for the coming year(s).

A public meeting on March 19 will focus on receiving input from property owners, business owners and operators. This presents a welcome opportunity to share your thoughts on how the city can help you and your business to stay relevant in this changing retail climate. We invite you to join us in this discussion.

About Don: Change is inevitable! But this is the song that remained the same for over 30 years. Don Tatzin, the MIT Graduate, CEO and consultant dipped his toes in serving his community. “We are very impressed with your Chamber. We have been members of other Chambers over the years and it’s been nothing like the experiences we’re having right out of the gate with your organization. Thank you for your great communication, follow up, and professionalism.”
– Peter Dewey, Bayview Painting

“I couldn’t have asked for a better resource than the Chamber, as I was establishing my medical practice in Lafayette. AJ, Holly, and Sara were so responsive to my questions and gave me many ideas on networking in the community. They host several events that foster community building. I honestly cannot imagine a more robust, active, and friendly chamber as this. I’m a member for life!”
– Cheruba Prabakar, Lamorinda Gynecology & Surgery

“WE LOVE THE CHAMBER! Batch and Brine has been a member of the Lafayette Chamber of Commerce for almost six years. We value and appreciate the incredible amount of work this organization produces for our community through many events and support for each business. The networking and education of information that’s spilled out weekly for the business community is impressive. They are a helping hand in so many ways for our business community and beyond. We couldn’t be part of this community without being part of the chamber. Lafayette Chamber is one of the best organizations we’ve worked with, so don’t think twice about it, join the Chamber!” – Rolla Ghaben, Batch & Brine

“The Chamber was instrumental in helping us open 14 years ago. The staff went out of their way to help us make connections and ensure we were successful. We would not be where we are today without the Chamber!”
– John & Colleen McCormick, Lamorinda Music
