Ward-Young Architecture & Planning Welcomes Two New Principals to Leadership Team
LAFAYETTE, Calif. - Ward-Young Architecture & Planning is pleased to announce an important expansion in the ownership of the firm as architects Mike Mussano and Ted Brobst have joined Don Fulda, Robert Heck, Tim Ward and Larry Young as shareholders. In their new position in the firm as principals/partners, Mussano and Brobst will help guide and oversee the future growth of the firm.
Mussano and Brobst have been with Ward-Young for over 25 years and have contributed significantly to the firm’s portfolio of projects and reputation for creative design solutions, responsiveness and longevity. Larry Young and Tim Ward founded Ward-Young in 1977, in Truckee. Since 1983, the firm has operated studios in Truckee and the East Bay Area of San Francisco/Lafayette.
Mike Mussano assists Tim Ward in managing the firm’s Lafayette studio. Young describes Mussano as a well-rounded architect who is comfortable managing and designing for the nuances of any scale project and as a wealth of information to clients and staff. As a leader in the firm, his thoughtful perspective on business management and skills in streamlining processes will continue to be welcome contributions.
“I was always fascinated with how buildings were constructed. In college I was fortunate to be taught architectural theory from some of the most renowned professors in the country and then I continued learning from Tim Ward and other architects here at Ward-Young,” said Mike Mussano. “I hope to be able to continue my profession well into my 70s and look forward to mentoring the next generation of architects in our firm.”
Ted Brobst assists other principals in managing the firm’s Truckee studio. Young describes Brobst as having profoundly creative design talent and strategic thinking abilities in both residential and commercial projects and whose talent, along with skills in business development, client relations and management will continue to greatly benefit the firm with enhanced influence.
“I’ve always had an interest in modern architecture that utilizes an open concept, clean lines, expressive structure and interiors filled with natural light,” said Ted Brobst. “I’m proud to have been on the cusp of integrating this type of design into the regional mountain architecture of Tahoe at a time when traditional style was preferred or mandated. I’m proud that I’ve enabled our firm to lead in the realm of mountain modern design over the last decade.”
Larry Young, president of the firm’s Board of Directors, said that Mussano and Brobst becoming principals is a significant development for both the firm and its clientele, as their leadership will generate fresh energy and vitality within the firm and foster strategic planning for future growth.
“I hope to continue in a leadership role for several more years in order to assist Ted and Mike, as well as emerging new leaders, to acquire experience and to guide the firm’s growth and continued success,” said Young. “Maybe when I get old I will semi-retire and expect not to be missed (too much), having brilliant new leaders carrying on the good work for which our firm is known.”
