General Plan Update’s Housing Element 101

Don’t Miss the General Plan Update’s Housing Element 101

Join the City of Lafayette for Housing Element 101 webinars to get informed about the General Plan update and the specific chapter on housing. Housing is relevant to you for a variety of reasons. Perhaps you are thinking about how you might age in place, maybe your family is growing and you need a larger space, and maybe you know a friend, sibling, or child that would love to live in Lafayette but cannot find a place that fits their budget. Come learn with your neighbors about what the Housing Element is and how it might affect you. To find out more information and register for a session, visit www.PlanLafayette.org

Also, join members of the Lafayette community on EngagementHQ to share ideas of what you want to see, things you’d like to improve, and what you love about Lafayette.

EngagementHQ will be updated with new activities, like mapping exercises, quizzes, surveys, and community forums. GPAC members will use feedback from this platform to inform the goals, policies, and programs for the General Plan. Register today to make your voice heard. You can also watch last week's https://youtu.be/gDEWEs830Jg on the City's YouTube channel.

"Coffee" with the City of Lafayette Mayor Susan Candell

"Coffee" with the City of Lafayette Mayor Susan Candell

We welcome Susan Candell as Lafayette’s new Mayor. Susan was sworn in at the December City Council Meeting. Susan grew up in Orinda and after her college years at Berkeley and MIT, she came back to Lamorinda and settled here in Lafayette over 20 years ago. She has volunteered for many non-profits including Children’s Hospital, LPIE, the Lafayette Community Foundation and, for the last three years, the Lafayette City Council.

Mayor Candell's priorities for Lafayette in 2021 include the new General Plan for the City, state housing mandates and public safety.

Happy "Get Over It Day", Let's Network

Happy "Get Over It Day", Let's Network

Happy "Get Over It Day", Let's Network

Let's celebrate national Get Over It Day! This day should be celebrated as a day to let things go that have been holding you down or holding you back. Take a deep breath and let it go. The "it" is different for everyone. Whether it is personal or professional, purge the thing(s) that has been holding your success back. As you know, networking is a fun and wonderful way to help your business grow, but many don't want to do it for various reasons. I don't have time, I don't want to be bothered, I'll do it later, I'll go to the next meeting, whatever the excuse is, it's time to stop. You know networking is good for you and your business, so it's time to take a breath, make the commitment and Get Over It!

City of Lafayette’s Diversity Information Night

Join the City of Lafayette’s Equity and Inclusion Task force on Tuesday, March 23, for a Diversity Information Night. The program will start at 6:00 p.m., via Zoom. You can also watch a live broadcast of the program on the City’s YouTube Channel.

Lafayette has a multi-pronged approach to addressing systemic racism. First, all our schools are working with PTAs, parents, and students to address the issue. The Chamber of Commerce has made Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion a top priority as well. And as far as the City of Lafayette goes, the Council’s Public Safety committee, which addresses policing, will monitor progress on recommendations regarding training and reporting in the police department. City Staff has completed implicit bias training, and our Equity and Inclusion Task Force aims to address broader issues of racism in our community.

Community groups interested in working to advance equity and inclusion in Lafayette are invited to join us for a Diversity Information Night to be held this Tuesday, March 23, at 6:00 p.m. The program will be facilitated by Dr. Lynna McPhatter-Harris, Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Manager, who serves on both the social service practice team and the justice strategies team at Evident Change. “We are very impressed with your Chamber. We have been members of other Chambers over the years and it’s been nothing like the experiences we’re having right out of the gate with your organization. Thank you for your great communication, follow up, and professionalism.”
– Peter Dewey, Bayview Painting

“I couldn’t have asked for a better resource than the Chamber, as I was establishing my medical practice in Lafayette. AJ, Holly, and Sara were so responsive to my questions and gave me many ideas on networking in the community. They host several events that foster community building. I honestly cannot imagine a more robust, active, and friendly chamber as this. I’m a member for life!”
– Cheruba Prabakar, Lamorinda Gynecology & Surgery

“WE LOVE THE CHAMBER! Batch and Brine has been a member of the Lafayette Chamber of Commerce for almost six years. We value and appreciate the incredible amount of work this organization produces for our community through many events and support for each business. The networking and education of information that’s spilled out weekly for the business community is impressive. They are a helping hand in so many ways for our business community and beyond. We couldn’t be part of this community without being part of the chamber. Lafayette Chamber is one of the best organizations we’ve worked with, so don’t think twice about it, join the Chamber!” – Rolla Ghaben, Batch & Brine

“The Chamber was instrumental in helping us open 14 years ago. The staff went out of their way to help us make connections and ensure we were successful. We would not be where we are today without the Chamber!”
– John & Colleen McCormick, Lamorinda Music
